Where will the Carbine Conversion unit (CCU)
fit?
It will not fit on certain older G17 frames. The company does not know the exact
serial range that is involved, but most have KY in the beginning of their serial
numbers. There is however an easy modification that can be done to the frame to
make the carbine conversion unit fit. The feature that does not allow it to fit
is the plastic flash near the metal rail tabs. This flash can be removed very
easy by using a pocket knife and will not cause dysfunction in the proper
function of the pistol.
There was a very simple installation that requires no tools or gunsmithing know
how. The handgun frame slides onto the Carbine Conversion Unit (CCU) and the
existing slide stop pin holds the CCU and the handgun in place. The CCU now
functions purely as a blowback system and features a 16 ¼ inch barrel with a
standard Weaver style sight base. To install you simply pull the bolt handle
toward the rear notch and push it in to hold it open. Place the frame in
position. Load the ammunition magazine into the frame and release the bolt. This
allows the bolt to close the chamber of a live round. After you’ve completed
this, you will be ready to fire the weapon. The CCU will fire in semi automatic
mode just as the handgun originally would. When you are ready to remove the CCU,
it can be easily removed by pulling the bolt lock to the open point.
The Carbine Conversion Unit (CCU) has found its way into competitive shooting
sports and meets the power factors that are suitable for the three gun events.
Selecting the Ammo for the CCU
When you are selecting the ammunition for your CCU there are a few things that
you should consider before doing so. The CCU has a blow back action to it. The
design element in a blow back is the weight of the bolt. The way a blow back
action works is the bolt weight and the bullet weight work together limiting the
amount of the case which is allowed to move out of the chamber while the while
the bullet is still in the bore. When you fire a round from your gun, two things
happen immediately. First the bullet will move out of the case and up to the
bore. Secondly, the case will move to the rear and against the breech face. The
ammo must be hot enough to have the proper ejection. If it isn’t the device may
not work well.
Features of the Carbine Conversion Unit (CCU) Glock Accessories
Mech Tech CCU is a very unique product that is CNC machined and adds additional
versatility to your handgun. The CCU functions in semi automatic mode while
being able to shoot the same ammunition with increased muzzle energy up to about
forty percent. There are a variety of accessories that are available also such
as a fixed sight system which is a ghost ring style with a post at the front.
The sights are all adjustable for elevation and windage. The barrel length is
15.25 inches, the overall length 33.5 inches and the weight is 6.5 pounds.
The Company – Mech Tech Systems Inc.
Mech Tech Systems Inc. is the manufacturer of the carbine conversion unit (CCU).
The first CCU Mech Tech created was the 1911 CCU. It was a .45ACP, 40 Smith and
Wesson, 10mm, .38 Super, and 9 mm. It was the most tested unit on the market
reaching the one million round mark. It is highly effective and adds a greater
versatility to any handgun.
Legal Alert: This product is
for sale to California dealers under limited conditions only. Although the
product of itself is legal, the resulting combination with a pistol frame
becomes illegal under California law. Please contact Mech-Tech for details
relative to dealer sales in CA. At this time we know of no other states where
the combination is not legal but we caution everyone to become aware of relative
state and local laws.
Fit Alert: It has recently come to our attention that certain older G17 frames will not fit our Glock CCU. We do not as yet have a complete handle on just what serial number range is involved but to date most such lowers have 'KY' at the beginning of their s/n's. There is an easy fix for this for those daring enough to consider a simple mod to the frame. The guilty feature is a non-functional plastic flash near the metal rail tabs. This flash can be removed with a pocket knife and is of no consequence to the proper function of the pistol. This flash interferes with insertion of the lower into our CCU. Check with Glock-1 customer support or a competent gunsmith for details.
